Leadership and Creativity

The reason it's hard to be a leader... Hard to create new things... To be a rebel... Is because it's scary.

Not only is leadership lonely--(if you're truly leading you are the only one doing it)--it's frightening.

When we create something new... Everything is groundless... meaning, everything is changing... We are in between a time when old truths are dying and new ones are forming.

When we truly create, we are stuck in a limbo. We don't know if our new truth will be accepted or rejected.

This is why people are managers instead of leaders. Mediocre instead of great. It's easier for people to fit in the status quo. To not disrupt.

But the thing is... If we choose status quo... We are doing a disservice to society and our kids.

The only way to transcend is to be crazy with creativity. To be groundless. To let the old forms and ideas die while we grasp onto new ones so we can climb the ladder of transcendence and spirit.

Too many if us chose the wrong ladder...

We must be rebels.

Ideas came from the Courage to Create and Book One of the Great Books of the Western World.

Pegasus and Me

My son loves Pegasus. And so does corporate America.

What's better than a flying horse that carries thunder and lightening for Zeus? Or a horse that creates springs when his wings clip the earth? It's the essence of power, economic growth and fun.

It's also the iconic sign on top of the Magnolia Hotel in Dallas... Which probably describes Dallas well: power, economic growth and fun.

Is that how I'm supposed to be? Do those three characteristics determine a successful life?

Performing Creation

Matter meets time
In a timeframe
Odd and delicate

Found in a brisk kiss
Or a missed instance
Formed in depths of formations
Where brittle souls sing
From bosoms of salutations

In a matter of time
Time is clatter
Rumbling
Drifting
Succinctly singing
Sacraments of salvation

Here ye. Here ye
We all fall down
To shadows in coliseums
Where time and matter
Combine
Performing creation

Eyeball

The transparent eyeball
Does not see all
Flavor of crystal
Savor the accidental

As nothing forms to land and farms and a landscape
A horizon
With haze clouds
Acting so Proud

Two suns out my window

Two suns outside window
My son asleep on my lap
A sun cloud embraces the plane
Earth's landscape lost in some sun haze

The ether
Or the skies plus land and space
Or whatever it is
Seems as tranquil
As Emerson's essay On Nature

My son asleep so peacefully
And I, the transparent eyeball
Feeling his chest move up and down
With each breath
While the plane rocks back and forth
With each gust

The little sun pocket
Holds close to heart
Pockets my soul
In incessant nurture
As the transparent eyeball
Of existence
Fuses to mine

I'm a piece of universe floating in space
As two suns rise
One son sleeps
One man sits watching for what role of universe he plays.

Spirit resides in Stories.

Words do not merely show us spirit.
They are spirit.
Words create action.

words you are reading CHANGED you. You are never same.

Words.
perform.
act.
dance in our minds.
hearts.

Words live in Hollywood.
Directors of life.

Spirit, made from everything that's done,
Doing accumulates to good. bad. indifferent.
